Alan Gluestein

Alan has well over 30 years legal experience mainly in litigation and in more recent times, almost exclusively in the area of family law. Alan was the litigation partner in a small city firm until 1994. He then practiced as a barrister and solicitor in Parnell as a sole practitioner, mainly practicing in the litigation area, but also undertaking conveyancing, commercial and Trust work. Alan joined Wyndham Chambers in 2002 and since then he has specialised in family law.

Alan is experienced in all areas of family law and has a particular interest in proceedings involving children, under the Care of Child Act and the Children, Young Persons and their Families Act and he is regularly appointed by the Courts to act as lawyer for children involved in proceedings under these Acts. Alan has also considerable experience in property relationship law and trust and estate litigation and he has extensive experience in Elder Law and in particular in proceedings under the Protection of Personal Property Rights Act, in respect of which he is regularly appointed as Counsel for persons subject to the Act as well as other parties engaging in proceedings under the Act.

In addition to be appointed regularly as lawyer for children, and lawyer for persons subject to proceedings under the Protection of Personal Property Rights Act, Alan is regularly appointed by the Court as counsel to assist the Court in complicated family proceedings. In more recent times he has been appointed as counsel to assist for the purpose as acting as a mediator appointed by the Court in proceedings under the Care of Children Act.

Alan has had a long and extensive involvement on Law Society Committees and in recent times has been the convener of Child Law Standing Committee of the Family Law Section, and a member of the Family Law Section Standing Committee and Mental Health and Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act. He has delivered papers at law conferences from time to time and has contributed to legal publications. He is the author of the Legal Practice Manual Chapter on the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988.
